馬士基表示，這一決定的目的是減少進度差距和下滑，提高每周覆蓋率，并允許更強大的供應鏈規(guī)劃。
此外，2m聯(lián)盟的目標之一是減少燃料消耗。隨著變更形式的開始，2m聯(lián)盟將調(diào)整船舶航速以減少排放，以實現(xiàn)到2040年實現(xiàn)溫室氣體凈零排放的目標。
